Willamette Valley Albariño from Beacon Hill Vineyard

The Willamette Valley isn’t historically known for Albariño. That’s about to change…

Albariño, a grape whose origin traces back to northwest Spain in the Galicia region and borders the Atlantic coast, is also known as “Green Spain”. This region receives upwards of 40 inches of rainfall annually, which is very similar to what we average here in the Willamette Valley annually. Albariño is a rain-loving grape that also thrives in acidic, well-drained soils. Similar to Galicia, the Willamette Valley gets cool sea breezes that help moderate temperatures throughout the day. Unlike Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, Albariño is only planted in a few select places in the world.

Beacon Hill is thrilled to bring Spain’s most popular white wine here to the Willamette Valley!

We’re making our mark as Oregon’s Premier Albariño Producer

Having lived in Spain a few years, George Hillberry, owner and winegrower at Beacon Hill, has deep knowledge and familiarity with the varietal. George was confident that he could grow the grape on our Beacon Hill Vineyard, and together with his wife Carla planted Albariño in 2018, making it one of the only plantings in the Willamette Valley.

Albariño is an absolutely stunning varietal that offers aromas of lemon, orange peel, grapefruit pith and white flowers. It has very high acidity and the palate dances with lemongrass, green apple, and grapefruit notes.

Beacon Hill Albariño is a very delicious, crisp example of a new era for Albariño in the Willamette Valley.

Our mission is to showcase everything that Willamette Valley Albariño can be

At Beacon Hill we believe in creating a legacy, and being pioneers of Albariño in the Willamette Valley is a legacy we plan to embody for generations ahead. We hope to share this legacy with you at the estate, or through our wine when you open a bottle and take that first sip. Our wine club members who have come to know and love our Albariño, have been an integral piece of growing this project. We are proud to be the Willamette Valley’s premiere producer of Albariño, and usher in the new era for this beautiful grape in Oregon!

We invite you to shop our online store for currently available Albariño and to join our club for exclusive bottlings

George Hillberry and Carla Rodríguez planted albariño vines at their estate vineyard in 2018. This is my first time trying their Beacon Hill Albariño; it won’t be the last.

This wine’s crisp texture is matched by mouthwatering acidity. Aromas and flavors of lemon, grapefruit, Golden Delicious apples, basil and Marcona almonds will convince you that albariño is your new favorite white wine.”

“We are so excited to be at the forefront of Albariño production in Oregon and to create a legacy around this wonderful varietal”
